Scout 1

dsc02605.JPG
Somehow, Scout has a marshmellow on his ear.

norw-elkhnd-260x245-tig-2561.gif
The markings, the color, it should have been obvious…Scout is a Norwegian Elkhound.

The DNA results are in. Scout is MOSTLY a Norwegian Elkhound . His DNA also shows Scout is part Staffordshire Bull Terrior.

I was so sure Scout was mostly  German Shepherd. Nope. There is not a trace of German Shepherd in our boy. Despite Scout’s size and mean bark, Scout has to be the worst guard dog ever. We have to pull Scout off of guests the same way the officers on “Cops” pull their dogs off of felons. But, it is to protect people from muddy paws and kisses, not bites.

Six weeks sounds like forever. It is a long time. But, when you are on vacation, it goes fast.

Really fast.

We spent the last of our vacation in Fort Myers Beach. We did not see a single tourist attraction. Burnt out on restaurants, we only went out to eat once. But, when the beach is outside your back door and you have sunshine and flocks of friends, wellllll…life is good.

We saw coconut husks on the ground and coconuts on trees. DH was hoping to find a ripe one. But, it didn’t happen.

Last night at 10:30 p.m. our Weather/All Hazard’s Alert radio told us to take shelter. It got dark. It got windy. Abby ran through the dog door and out into the back yard to bark at the storm. Buster hid under a chair. Our cats, Simba and Biggs paced nervously, staying close to DH and I.  Kitty was out in the woods somewhere.

We turned our television to our local satellite weather channel. The announcer said a tornado had touched down and was 16 minutes away.  Our Police Scanner reported  a couple calling in on a cell phone phone saying they were trapped under the rubble of their house.

DH watched out the back door and saw nothing in the dark.

It was a long night.

This morning  we found fiberglass insulation from homes in Nappanee in our front yard. According to the news some of Nappanee’s debris was found in Constantine, Michigan…40 away.

Here are some pictures of Nappanee. I may have more this weekend.

Here is where I get vegetables in the summer. The Weaver’s lost some of their roof, several trees, and all of their vegetable stand. Notice the right porch post.
